Legend has it Cobra Ramone was born punch-dancing in a coastal town in N.J. & stole a car at the age of 3.  Musical favourites like Howlin’ Wolf, Motorhead and O.D.B have turned Cobra into a Gibson SG wielding musical mutt with roots in JD soaked scuzzy blues-rock. With the genius of Brad Smith, Jay Sparrow and Fred Brenton, Cobra ground out a 10 song record for release on Apr. 24, 2012  This track is the first one on the album – dedicated to Lemmy from Motorhead!

“How far are you willing to go to meet your hero? If, for instance, we’re talking about Motörhead main man Lemmy Kilmister, Vancouver blues experimenter Cobra Ramone is ready to get down and plant a kiss on the famously moled rock icon’s boots, if given the chance. Or at least that’s what she proposes on “L.E.M.M. Why”, the lusty and loud shout-out that opens her eponymous new LP. It’s arguably the most direct track on the record, from its one-chord chugging verses to the specific target of Ramone’s attention. Elsewhere, lovers, wusses, and all-out bad dudes get the anonymous treatment.” (more at: http://m.straight.com/s?fid=43&a=669391&f=recordings&s=60)

Location: Small bar on Granville Street, every table filled with young rockers and I spotted a couple of accomplished musicians on the way in, a hint that I’m going to enjoy the performance.  The bathroom is behind the stage, so people have to walk over the riser and pass the singer (within 2ft of her) to get to/from.  Cobra packed them in.  Every cranny was filled and it’s a groovy little venue that has only had a couple gigs there so far… venues for local musicans are hard to find, so I urged the manager to start getting into weekly music there!
