Video #266 of 1000 – Ralph Shaw – Hateful (by The Clash). Recorded live at the Electric Owl on Dec. 23, 2012 in HD (1080p on XA10 in B/W 24fps).

For the 10th anniversary of Joe Strummer’s death… punk rock ukelele (and a kazoo)? Ralph Shaw was a truely wildcard performer for this rare evening at the Electric Owl! I’ve watched Ralph perform as a busker on Granville Island for over a decade. “This cheerful, lanky entertainer proves again and again that everyone from kids to great-grandparents can be inspired, enthralled and delighted by his spellbinding musical genius and infectious laugh-out-loud comedy! So, I was surprised, to say the least, when Ralph showed up in a leather jacket (and bow-tie) to offer one of the most punked out performances of the evening! “Hateful” is one of the least known songs from The Clash’s third studio album “London Calling” which is ranked at number eight on Rolling Stone’s list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
