Day #46 of 1000 – Rick Fines and Carlos Del Junco – May Be The Last Time (trad). Recorded live at an Old Crow house concert in North Vancouver on May 14, 2012 in HD (1080p).

Carlos is one of those players whose music is so advanced that when it comes to awards, it’s either retire the category or rephrase the question to “Best Harmonica Player Not Named Carlos”. This includes two Gold Medals from the Hohner World Harmonica Championship in Trossingen, Germany, as well as multiple national awards in Canada.

Rick is a veteran of the folk and blues circuits in North America. In October 2005 Rick went to Alabama where he took first place in the Sweetgum Bottom Acoustic Blues Competition. His song “Riley Wants His Life Back” won first place in the blues category of 2003 International Songwriting Competition, with B.B. King one of the judges!

This song was a traditional song made famous by Mavis Staples (recorded by the Staple Singers in 1955), ripped off by the Rolling Stones and credited to Mick Jagger & Keith Richards (“The Last Time” became their third #1 hit in 1965) and then sampled (under license) by The Verve in their hit “Bittersweet Symphony” who ended up being sued in 1997 by manager Allen Klein (whose company ABKCO Records owns the rights to all Rolling Stones material from the 1960s).
