Video #995 of 1000 – Kellen Saip – Old Fashion. For Day 995 of EveryDayMusic on Sunday, Dec.21, 2014. Recorded on the back patio of Kellen’s home on Dec. 19, 2014 in HD (XA10 in 1080p).
Some people have asked me what I mean by the (sometimes remarkable) ‘co-incidences’ that have happened in EveryDayMusic. Well… I met Kellen when I sat down to shoot (in front of him and his girlfriend) at Shovels and Rope (in the balcony of the Rickshaw). I introduced myself, gave him a card and moved aside out of their way as soon as the people next to me vacated. Then on a post I did the first day I went to CBC for an interview, Trevor Mackay mentioned it was too bad I was almost finished because it would be great if I met Kellen Saip. I’ve had several cancellations due to illness and scheduling conflicts in my final weeks, so I decided to drop him a line and ask him for a song. On the day I went to White Rock to film my friends Justin and Sarah (whom I brought with me to Kellen’s) I stopped by Kellen’s to film a song. After the song, I asked how we met and he told me that the morning I contacted him, his wallet had fallen on the ground and my card had popped out of it. Even though Kellen had a nasty cold he wanted to give me a song. Kellen gave me his CD entitled “Heading Homeward”. Then he told me it would’ve been cool if I could shoot a song with his Grammy award winning Mother. She had popped outside to join us (and find out what was going on because they were waiting for us to be done before they went shopping), so I asked her. Then she welcomed us inside her beautifully decorated home and I filmed a beautiful song with her (which I will post next). And that’s how I’ve been ‘finding’ songs in this project! BTW… a friend of my dad’s is working in a remote camp in Fort Mackay and I called him to discuss the work opportunities up there the same week I contacted Kellen!
